Said has had a difficult time.
He underwent two operations for
bow legs, but because these
surgeries were performed later in his
life, the outcomes were not ideal.
While there was some improvement,
his condition is not fully corrected.
When we caught up with him, he was
like any teenager, loathe to talk
to me. I asked if he was attending
school, and he said no. When I asked
why not, he told me he had gone to
school for a while but dropped out
because of the operations.
He found it too difficult to continue.
It’s hard to criticise him. His bedroom
was also the kitchen, full of smoke
with a dirt floor. He slept on
the dirt floor, and his blanket was
a rice bag. We asked him to go to
school and we would refund his
costs, his parents agreed. This is
Said (above) on his first day back
to school. Let’s see.
