How do we assess when we lack medical qualifications?
Ideally all children would be reviewed by a doctor. However, geographic distance,
time limitations and financial constraints has prevented this.
Therefore we follow a three-step test:
1. How does the child’s general health look?
2. Has the specific problem been mostly solved?
3. What do the parents think? They are asked in Swahili and encouraged
to share any issues they have.
Yusuph
Yusuph was born with a cleft lip and palate. Here he is (above right)
pictured at two weeks of age.
On this trip, we met Yusuph and his family for his post surgery review,
which took place on the roadside (below right and opposite).
